Congratulations to the BMS Boys Baseball Team! The team won the Tri County League champions for the second year in a row, beating Chester yesterday at the fan-packed, New Ipswich Town Field with a final score of 12-2! The Bulldogs topped their last year's championship win with a 9-0 undefeated season. Tyler Faulkner pitched a great game giving up only 2 hits and striking out 6 batters. Other fantastic defensive moves were displayed by Zach Spaulding and DJ Turner in left and right fields in sprinting catches to keep Chester from scoring only twice.
Offensively Daimon Gibson, Travis Rautiola, DJ Turner, Scott Humphrey, and Drew Rines put up great numbers to get the score up, often creating hits on two outs to bring in the runs. Smart heads up running, had Boynton stealing to put them into scoring range as well as taking extra bases on hits to earn them their 12 runs.
Coaches Stauffeneker and Faulkner are very proud of this team, this game was only one of many in which they played unbelievable. The team followed their motto of "one inning at a time" and really took it to heart. With their tightly played defense and on target pitching, the team only gave up 19 runs in 10 games! Coach Stauffeneker stated proudly, that he had a very balanced team who exhibited great effort all year long.
After the game the team paraded through town, led by the New Ipswich fire truck and followed by up to 20 cars of screaming fans to announce their win. Special thanks to Wally Brown, who gassed up his bus to drive the parade route with our deserving ballplayers. Onlookers were seen beeping and waving back at the team and their devoted fans, proud of them for a job well done. The team ended up at Small Town Sweets where they were treated for ice cream by the Gibson Family. Thank you all for a wonderful, supportive season.
